Heroes and The Cult of the Celebrity
When you first look at this picture, you think that you are
looking to the Barbie doll and her boyfriend Ken, you thought that you are in
front of two non-living dolls, but no, you will be wrong, you are looking at
two humans like you and me. They are the living human dolls Barbie and Ken. We
heard about before about Valeria the 21 Ukranian girl who transformed herself
to human living Barbie doll, but recently, I found another one who was crazy
about Barbie doll and her boyfriend Ken, also transformed himself to be the
live version of the Ken doll, he is Justin Jedlica, a 32 years old man. Justin
have payed about $100,000 on plastic surgeries to look like the Ken doll. ((RSVP
magazine. n.d).
Ken, or Justin, have been underwent surgeries in his whole
face and body to look like the Ken doll, and he said that is the reason that he
wanted to be like the Ken doll is he observed that all children are playing and
even grown up people, adore the Barbie and Ken dolls, and playing with them all
the time, and then he thought that is the only way to be handsome and
attractive, is through being like them, and since he is a man, so he cannot be
a Human Barbie, so he transformed himself to the male version which is the Ken
doll. (RSVP magazine. n.d).
Another one who is maniac about having the dolls style is Anastasia
Shpagina a 19 years old girl from Odesa. But this time, she didn’t transform
herself to a doll with plastic surgeries, but with makeup. Shpagina wakes up every day at 5 a.m
to get dressed and she explained that she spend every day about two hours in
putting makeup in her face, to have the doll look, and she said that she spend
30 minute in each eye to have these wide eyes like a doll. (Kathy Cho. 2012).
What is the secret behind all this mania about the dolls
look, why all the people suddenly want to look like dolls, because it is not
only about these three above, there are hundreds of them whom transformed themselves
to dolls, through plastic surgeries or through makeup. In the past, we could
hear that some people which to be like superman or batman because they are
heroes, so are dolls became now heroes that all the people want to look like
them or this considered as a cult of celebrities.
Of course dolls are not heroes, but those people may
suffering from the disease of the cult of celebrity, they think that is dolls
are fabulous , and the only way to look attractive and fabulous like them, is
transforming themselves to human dolls, and maybe they want to be famous and
surrounded by people and media and all the world talk about them, like what is
exactly is happening now.
Those people are
understand the word of beauty just from one side, which is the external
appearance and how they face and body should look like, they just want to have
the perfect look whatever this coast to them. Valeria, the live version of
Barbie doll, want to make other surgeries to make her body work with the solar
power, and doesn’t eat at all, can you imagine that someone could think about
such a thing. I think that we should teach our children the real meaning of
beauty, to teach them that it is not the main thing that to beautiful from
outside, you should also be beautiful from inside.
"The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true
beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly
gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing
years." - Audrey Hepburn. (Sarkis. S. 2012).
